Today Marks 80 Years in Virginia Woolf’s Suicide Death

Tragically, on this day, 28 March 1941, 80 years ago, world renown author Virginia Woolf, filled her pockets with rocks and committed suicide by walking into the River Ouse where she drowned. She was only 59.

Twenty years later, another great author would take his life, too. On 2 July 1961, Ernest Hemingway, committed suicide near the Sun Valley community of Ketchum, Idaho. Hemingway was 61.

Facelifts & Makeovers Have Begun

As I mentioned in the previous post, I would be doing major overhauling and makeovers to most of our social media content, websites, blogs, and publishing sites. That time has come.

While presenting a cleaner, clearer, neater, and less cluttered appearance to promote my books I hope to make a better visiting experience for fans and readers of my content material. It will be a slow process, but an important one.

Much of the content in the flagship’s website media group will be archived here on this subordinate blog.

Please be patient. Some of the posts, pages and content to this site will be closed to the public as we rejuvenate our media group. We will be in the ready position for a massive and aggressive publishing experience that has been spearheaded by years of hard, laborious work. We will soon be ready to present this updated experience of publishing adventure to the public.

We will still be blogging and publishing in this platform as well as several others. But some of the posts and pages will be in private status as we archive massive content from multiple platforms and sources.

Some of the content will be password protected. Select individuals will have access to evidence and material of litigation nature for legal processing in civil and criminal matters and for legal presentations, for craft concern or content, manuscript materials for such groups as beta readers, editors, proofreaders, cover designers, social media and writing coaches, quality control consultants and graphic artist assistants and the like. Please DO NOT ask for access of these protected areas of concern as the only way to access them are though invitation only, with purpose and for specific and limited people for limited time.

Some of those password protected materials will be available for craftsmanship of select individuals in a various stages of study, beta review, proofing, or some other reason, such as students in craft study with consultation with writing coaches or for specific reasons to have access to private content that is not yet published or intended for publication.

Too, communication with global rescue teams or SAR units exchanging vital information that is timely and urgent and of which could be delayed using alternative encrypted communication resources. Sharing between teams is enhanced.

The reason I have to mention this is because some of the private material, or password protected material will or could be visible to public viewers in headline nature and could trigger curiosity while most will not be. The reason for that is because those needing access will not need a link, but simply visiting the site of interest. I’m sorry for the inconvenient, but i do not control the technology… just yet.

Explosive shall be the new experience. I’m excited. I hope you will be, too!

I will be posting, and bringing new ideas to the long idled sites in the media-group network.

~A Double Feature~

Now for some relaxation R & R…

In the fall of 1983 I was sitting in a bar in Malta, New York, just outside Saratoga Springs, having a few drinks with my buddy and classmate, a U.S. Navy SEAL on an elite team. He was co-captain of our wrestling team. He was home on an emergency leave. It was not a good time for either of us. We both had losses. Grave sadness. He had more than me. At home and at sea.

It was during Operation Urgent Fury, the U.S. invasion of Grenada.

He lost several members of his team in the predawn hours of a covert operation. They were lost at sea in stormy, turbulent conditions when they jumped from their helicopters off the shore of Grenada with full and heavy combat gear and equipment. They were the first to go into the war zone, their mission was to take down any resistance that could threaten the forces of the incoming invasion. Their bodies were never recovered. Had he not come home for the emergency on the home front he too, might have been lost at sea, never to be recovered.

Sometimes bad things that happen are good things for some people. If one can understand such statement. It is a phenomenon of life.

Clint Eastwood’s Heartbreak Ridge movie gave a fictional side to the story of American military rescue operations to liberate trapped Americans.

Later during Operation Just Cause, and Operation Nifty Package, the 1989-1990 U.S. invasion of Panama the Navy lost four more SEALs with nine injuries in an ambush.

Noriega, a Panamanian political and military leader was eventually captured and brought to the United States for trial.

Hundreds of causalities, military and civilians, occurred during that operation that lasted over a month long to capture Noriega.

Looking ahead to some of the media group series there will be many war stories and military operations told in storytelling fiction and nonfiction. When it comes to the history of war and combat there is never a shortage of storytelling action and adventures.

Back in Malta, in 1983, while sitting at that bar with my SEAL schoolmate, and wrestling co-captain, was the first time I had heard Red, Red Wine version as it was sung by UB40. That was the year they released it, so, it was a brand new song, as it was playing on the jukebox. It remains a favorite of mine till this very day. And, when I hear it, I think back on those good times and bad times. I mourn and rejoice at the same time…. is that possible? I think it is.

One of my all-time favorite artists, Neil Diamond, wrote, performed and recorded Red, Red Wine in 1967. It was the A side of a 45 with Red Rubber Ball, another oldies favorite on Side B.

Now for some real R & R….

A military slideshow of Operation URGENT FURY, Operation Just Cause and Operation Nifty Package are presented below. Enjoy!

United States Invasion of Panama, 1989-1990 was code named Operation Just Cause. The operation was led by 48 U.S. Navy SEALs with three platoons from Team 4, Golf, Echo and Delta. Four U.S. SEALs were lost in ambush attacks with nine others injured. Members from every U.S. military branch were involved in Operation Just Cause with high causalities. Resistance was heavy. The purpose of the invasion was to liberate 35,000 Americans endangered by threats of the Panamanian Dictator, Manuel Noriega, secure American-owned bases, properties and other interests including the Panama Canal, combating drug trafficking and securing human rights. Operation Nifty Package was a United States Delta Force and U.S. Navy SEAL joint operation to capture Panamanian Dictator Manuel Noriega. The operations were all successful. After more than a month of fighting, Noriega was taken into U.S. custody and brought to the United States, tried and convicted.

Moving Forward & the Days Ahead

We have become such a divided nation it seems people cannot agree upon anything. If there is one thing most of us can agree upon it is that 2020 was one of the worst years of modern times. For many, if not for most, 2020 was the worst year of their entire life.

We went from a robust, booming economy with near full employment, record breaking achievements and historically high stock markets, the best economy in history and many other boom-era victories to bust, seemingly overnight.

During the Trump presidency, the United States of America was not involved in any new war anywhere around the globe. But we were involved in a big war at home. What started as a cold war at home turned red hot and it is still burning with such division many believe we will eventually go to some kind of homeland war in America. That means a civil war, a revolution, a race war, or continued chaos and unrest that threatens our peace and security.

Portland, Seattle, and many other cities continue with widespread violence despite political changes that were drastic and in direct opposition of the previous administration. It does not seem to matter which political party is in office. So how can we ever have peace if everyone is a target to some anonymous enemy?

We have crossed the threshold of direct communism by the social media tyrants that choose to be our slave masters with their censorship and anti-American banning of the leaders of our nation and their supporters. Section 230 protects these elite billionaire tyrants with immunity from prosecution, or lawsuits, a privilege an unwise Congress gave them, but it does not and cannot exempt them from sniper bullets that could rain down on them like fire and brimstone, by a single vigilante justice seeker.

That brings me to the next phase of this post, the agenda for the New Year 2021. I do not expect 2021 to be much better than 2020 for most Americans or the citizens of the world. We are in peril and we will be vulnerable to failings the kind we have not seen in our lifetime.

But for me, I am moving forward. I have been hindered by multiple interferences with my writing and publishing and I vow to take control of those obstructions while I push to fulfill my aspirations.

Some never learn their lesson. No matter how many breaks you offer someone to change their stubbornness and refusal means there is only one alternative left. Lawsuits litigated by professional trial lawyers.

When something is true you have the lawful right to public your experience about it. I intend to do just that while litigating stubborn adversaries that insist on being evil and demonic.

* * *

I have always been an idea person. I have always been a problem solver. They are teachable arts and sciences. Not everyone would agree on my solutions for any given problem, but that is what discussion, debate, forum, and community is all about—an exchange of ideas, opinions, and thoughts. That is what makes the world a better place in which to live, my motto. As the old saying goes, two minds are better than one.

While I pride myself on the flow and abundance of ideas that come to mind, I could not personally bring them to reality all by myself, not in a lifetime. But I may be able to spark those embers of thoughts and ideas in the minds of others who can carry the torch of burning vision to a reality of substance. Many realities of today, especially in the space age, artificial intelligence, robots and other high-tech stuff were sparked in the minds of their creators first by writers in such genres as science-fiction, fantasy and other written works, including pulp fiction.

Writing is the perfect venue to release those ideas to those that can bring the invention to the next level. Before a man stepped foot on the moon or before there was a spaceship to take him there, there was a writer who imagined it and wrote about it. Then others carried the torch of their visions to the next level and made it reality.

Modern life is full of such ideas that matured from the minds of writers. The same is true for movements of all kinds, things that changed society, people writing and speaking out about things that concerned them, issues they visioned change for.

There is not enough space in this one post to detail all of my intentions. I would bore most readers. I still have previous posts to update and complete and if there is one thing common with the multiple neurological problems I suffer from, TBI, PTSD, CFS, and others, it is incomplete tasks or projects. Add procrastination to that and you have a personal disaster. That needs to be fixed. Focus and self-discipline can fix it.

This year, 2021, despite respite that is minimal or nonexistent, from multiple distractions and interference, I will use forced concentration and determined self-discipline, on my priorities (writing and publishing and domestic well-being) I will advance many long-overdue editions of both fiction and nonfiction works, short and long forms, I have worked on for years, some even decades. Many just need a final polish. A little tweaking. Fine tuning. Tighten a couple of loose nuts on the bolts. Then they are set to go. Sometimes it is good to let your work just sit and like a good food simmering, a new look at it sometime later brings editing and proof reading that is easier to spot mistakes or misgiving you missed the first few times around.

This is NOT a New Year’s resolution, but a contract with myself to get it done and now, I WILL:

  • I will overhaul and do makeovers of my websites and archive their existing form to this media while presenting a cleaner, clearer, neater, and less cluttered appearance to promote my books. It will be a slow process, but an important one.
  • I will pause my many humanitarian efforts and take care of myself and my feline rescue service animal, Freedom, first while in peril to medical and financial hardship. We will reinstate activities when income and health warrant us doing so. If we are able to do so.
  • I will begin renewed publishing of short-read fiction and nonfiction, collections of short stories, articles and essays and all forms and length of writing, including full-length novels and nonfiction books.
  • I will focus on what I do best, pulp and noir writing, fast & furious fiction while streamlining like nonfiction in inexpensive (pulp) short-reads and then bundled and printed editions. Both pen names and my real name (orthonym) will be continuing to be used. Published since the late 70s, (pen names) pulp fiction fast & furious writing has been the most profitable for me and will continue to be my focus under my orthonym or real name. Volume, quantity over quality will be the primary focus of pulp-style eBooks selling at 99 cents a copy and bundles from $2.99 to $9.99 for mega super packs and print editions reasonably priced.
  • I will be adding two or three new blogs and/or websites while consolidating more than 200 into just these few. Speaking Out! will be one such new publication.
  • I will create columns within this medium with the same name as the titles of blogs and eBook they are associated with. Examples will be The CONSULTANT, Poor Boy’s Etc. Some of these will be syndicated in other publications.
  • I will merge Social Media (SM), Blogging and eBooks with follow-up Print editions once enough material is accumulated to foster print books.
  • I will publish teaching material in all phases of writing, fiction, and nonfiction, how-to and DIY, and all about writing and publishing. Set your dinner table because it is going to be exciting. Pour your favorite drink.
  • I will eventually ban any anonymous followers or persons without verified and vetted profile photos of themselves. The reason? The internet has become a place of pure hostility and people hiding behind anonymity to spy on, stalk, and to do harm to others. I will not tolerate that. I project that the policy I will enforce is that they must be known to me, and/or my associates if not the entire community. Anonymity began as a great thing on the Internet to give people an opportunity to speak out and to whistle blow without persecution. But it has led to more abuse than it has not. Today, our very freedom is at stake.
  • I will use the experiences of life to do what I have always done, write stories based on experience, observation, and imagination as well as ideas and creations adapted from research. Some of the fiction titles coming soon with short-read and full-length novels in standalone and series are Snipers Are Cheaper Than Lawyers, The Homeland Wars, The Red Berets, The Yellow Jackets, Desert Rats, Gutter Rat, Knights Templar Resurrection, Ian Morgan’s Science-Fiction Thrillers, Inner-City Thrillers, Bedbugs (Horror), Slumlords, Slumlord 89101, The Maverick, and many other inner-city thrillers, genre and subcategory thrillers, horror, pulp and noir fiction, westerns, science-fiction, fantasy, and items listed in the archives of Sunrise Mountain Publishing on our same-named Blog.
  • I will publish multiple nonfiction titles of standalone and series such as: From the Heart, Stories from the Heart, Commonsense, We the People, Open Letters, We the American People, Open Forum, Shoptalk, My Life at the Maverick, My Story, Slumlord, Slumlord 89101, Slumlord and the Inner City, Vegas, Las Vegas, Vegas Valley, Predators in Medical, Predators, The Predators Series, Humanitarian Series, the Quick & Easy Guides to Series, The Quick & Easy Way to Understand Series, the Quick & Simple series, Poor Boy’s Consumer Economic Series, Poor Boy’s Kitchen, Poor Boy’s (spinoffs), this includes consumer product reviews and more. The Clifford G. Harrison DIY Freedom & Independence Library; Writing courses, publishing and marketing, management and self-improvement, self-discipline, time-management, career guides, and general lifestyle subjects, Do it Yourself publications and how-to guides, survival, libraries, and multiple other publications. Plus, many other titles and series.

That is an ambitious list, especially for someone suffering the illnesses and the interference I experience. But I have the will, the means, and the visions to see these things through, even while enduring major litigation, and I vow to carry them through to completion. It is all an experience, an observation, and a tad bit of imagination as the great master of writing, William Faulkner so keenly mentioned. I will write from all three elements of the story that the infamous writer, Mister Faulkner so accurately outlined. As long as it is true, no one can stop me. Get ready! It’s coming! Some are just waiting for me to die, but I am determined to live…

2021 may be as bad as 2020 or even worst, but I am determined to defeat all adversaries that stand in my way of progress and freedom and independence. I have spent a lifetime liberating others, and I write about that, now I will liberate myself from in the injustice that surrounds me. No excuses. No exceptions. Period!

Thanks for joining me.

On Writing

One well-received writing coach wrote that nearly all other authors in this genre he spoke of said if your motivation for writing in this particular genre is money, don’t do it because you will fail.

I don’t believe that.

I believe if you don’t write for money or do anything that consumes your time for reasons other than money, then you don’t have a business, you have a hobby. Hobbies don’t support livelihoods, hobbies don’t pay bills, or put food on the table, businesses do.

No matter what your business is, and in this case, we are talking about writing, if you don’t write for money you will certainly fail. You will fail because you cannot survive without income from what you are doing, unless of course, you have income from another source. It is still then a hobby, not a business.

The first goal in writing, publishing, or any other business, is always to make money.

Without money you cannot survive and remain doing what you are doing which in this case is writing (and publishing) and more specifically in this genre which I will not mention because no matter which genre you write in or multiples of genres, you always write for money and for a bunch of additional reasons as well, such as to entertain, to teach, to escape a given world for another, to allow your readers an escape from their horrible, or boring or frustrating world for another. And so forth.

We write for money.

We must survive.

We must pay our bills.

We must be happy and comfortable in our lives.

We must be successful in what we do. Income is the measurement of success.

But we also, must write for any given other reasons which may vary from author to author.

If you are filthy rich and already have lots and lots of money, and write for another reason, fine, so be it. If you want to do it for nothing, fine. But the truth is, only the top-earning authors sell a lot of books, the kind of sales all the other authors marvel over. Bestselling books are based on sales and sales are based on the money they earn and the number of copies they spin out. It’s a no brainer and it’s called economics. It is a supply and demand thing.

Millions of books hit the market and don’t bring their authors a single penny. Don’t be one of those authors. Pay other authors by purchasing their books and learn how to do it right. You will never be sorry; I promise you that!

Write for money, and LOTS of it, as well as for ALL the other reasons that motivate you to write and which keeps you writing, happily ever after. (HEA) Case closed.

Till next time, ~Cliff

Vagrant Winds of War

The Homeland Wars
23232323232323we_the_people
31 January 2019 (Las Vegas, NV) Americans must be ready to once again go to war to save our nation. This time the war won’t be overseas. It will be right here in the homelands. It will be the Homeland Wars. Our nation’s history is rich with the bravery and the courage of men and women who fought to defend her. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave. And there is no one, no one on this planet that is going to change that, not near or from afar. We will fight for America or die trying to save her. No force, foreign or domestic, shall ever remove our liberty by war or by law. No opposition shall commit tyranny upon us, not by political or by corporate slavery or by injustice. We as Americans are ready to fight and ready to die to offset any force that threatens our freedom and independence no matter where that force originates from.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is the creed of our nation. It is the ideology of who we are as Americans. It is the ideology of who we are as a people. We shall never allow anyone to come here and take that away from us. We shall never allow anyone from within to destroy that basic concept of who we are as a people. We The People.

I will repeat what has already been said:

“We will die on our feet before we will live on our knees.”

We are at the hour of decision. That decision depends upon the behavior of others. Let no man or woman ever mistake our conviction to remain a free people with liberty and justice for all. Let no one make the mistake to think that their liberty means it will allow us to be held in tyranny. Liberty and justice for all do not tread on anyone. It compromises fair and just equality. And that is who we are, a fair and just people born of equality, not preference or favoritism to a few, so the few can be masters over the many, but true equality where all people are truly equal and survive on and by their own merits. The value of their life.

Peace is our greatest aspiration.  But the might of war is our greatest strength if we need to go there. And we will go there to defend the principles of our nation and the traditions that made us strong out of the dust and ashes and the smoke of wars that were fought by our ancestors to bring our nation to its greatest standing in front of all nations upon the planet Earth.

Since the Civil War of the 1860s, this nation has never been more so divided. Our division will certainly bring us to a homeland war if we cannot quell our differences and find compromise and commonality. The same number of people who think a homeland war cannot come to America is the same number of people who thought World War I or World War II would not come. Both wars did come and so will the homeland wars of America if the winds of war do not change. The majority may think otherwise. But war can and will come if conditions are right for war. War will come if both sides don’t try to defuse it. It will be a war nobody wants. A war, nobody can hope for, but a war nonetheless.

We must find unity, not division if we are to survive as a nation. Otherwise, one side is likely to utterly destroy the other side. Will our side win or will our side lose?

The answer is blowing in the vagrant winds of war.

Author’s Note: The video that accompanies this essay, Story of our National Anthem, originated by Robert Surgenor, is debated by a divided audience as to the authentication of the storyline of the video. Some say it is false, other demand it is a true story. For the purpose of this essay, its authenticity is irrelevant. It is a good story. It is a great story. Rather the story is fiction or nonfiction, is irrelevant because it is indeed a great story.  A story told by a good storyteller. It is a story about a people who stand their ground against overwhelming odds and ferocious enemy forces, regardless of the predicted outcome. They stand for who they are as a people. If they die, then so be it, they died for their cause. And that is what we, as a people will do if war comes to the homelands of America. That is the essence of this story and this essay. That is the essence of what an American is. That is the essences of defining an American. That is the essence we must find within ourselves as human beings if we expect to survive our current world and domestic problems. There is nothing more that needs to be explained. We are Americans!
